The goal of our children's classes is to make learning Chinese fun and exciting. We want children to be encouraged by their own accomplishments and to be interested in pursuing language study. Children are taught how to have conversations in Chinese and how to write some Chinese characters.
Beginning Course
This course is designed for children who have no previous knowledge of Chinese.
Children learn the pronunciation of Chinese sounds, how to introduce themselves, counting, and everyday objects. They are also introduced to Chinese writing. Supplementary materials are used to help increase the child's interest in China. They may include items such as maps, photos of famous sites in China, information on Chinese holidays, and short Chinese fairy tales.
Topics: Greetings, Talking About Yourself, Asking the Names of Everyday Objects, Food, Numbers 1-10, Days of the Week.
Beginner and Beyond Course
This course is an accelerated course designed for children who have some knowledge of spoken Chinese and covers levels 1 and 2.
This course has a strong emphasis on the development of Chinese language reading and writing skills for children whose families speak Chinese at home. Speaking and listening in Chinese are also taught and practiced. Supplementary materials are used to help increase the child's interest in China. They may include items such as maps, photos of famous sites in China, information on Chinese holidays, and short Chinese fairy tales.
Topics: Greetings, Talking About Yourself, Asking the Names of Everyday Objects, Food, Numbers 1-10, Days of the Week, Possessive Pronouns, Parts of the Face and Body, Transportation, Places, Animals, Fruits, Colors, Free Time Activities and Hobbies.
Intermediate Course
The emphasis of the course is expanding the basics covered in the beginner's course. Correct pronunciation is still emphasized and new words increase the child's ability to communicate in Chinese. New topics include food, animals, transportation, and parts of the body. Children are encouraged to express themselves using their new words and sentence patterns and to not be afraid of making mistakes. Supplementary materials are similar to those in the beginner course.
